THE HEN MINI-BLOG

Little Chick to Little Pip

We can only ponder... if Little Chick had obeyed her mum, Crazy Simone's suggestion to jump, would she still be with us?
Of course as she got bigger, she learnt to jump and land quite well.

Here she is on a rare outing as a youngster with proud mum showing her around.

Unfortunately, to all who know her, Simone is something of a wandering lass and Pip was soon left to her own devices. A quiet perch on an overgrown window box is just the spot for keeping out of trouble.
But as the weather got colder and snow arrived, Pip preferred to hang out in Kitty's stable, testing the straw for nesting possibilities against future egg production.
Now though she's a fully grown hen and clearly her papa was a rolling stone too, because papa must have been a bantam, not the enormous cockerel we all thought he was. Little Pip has started to lay eggs and after three weeks they remain perfect, ivory coloured eggs but small along with her funny feet and little stalky legs.
Who cares! We love her anyway.
